Developer Star Wars: The Old Republic calls the studio change “a new beginning, and not the end” for MMO

The developer Star Wars: The Old Republic assured the fans that the shift of the studio for MMO is "new beginning, not the end".

Earlier this week, it became known that BioWare will leave the development of Star Wars: The Old Republic and another studio will be replaced – the developer of Ultima Online Broadsword. As expected, the fans were somewhat concerned about this change, many of them were afraid that this means that the popular MMO was moving towards the end of his life.

After all these news, some of the former and current developers Bioware shared their thoughts about the alleged transition, assuring the fans that their beloved MMO threatens nothing. One of these developers is the executive producer of Bioware Keat Cannag, who worked as a senior developer in SWTOR, joining a team of developers before its expansion in 2014.

"Hey-hey-hey, that’s it. I hoped that my story about upcoming releases would help you understand that this is a new beginning, and not the end. We still have many stories, modernization and MMO content planned after 7.4. While the details are discussed and finalized behind the scenes, let’s not turn this into incorrect theories. I ask you to stay in place, and we will later report more details when we can.

Chris Schmidt, a former design director in BioWare (now he is a game director on Infinity Ward), shared on Twitter a detailed explanation for what he thinks about the recently declared EA plans. "For SWTOR: That’s good", – Schmidt explains, – "For BioWare: This is a big loss".

The developer talks in detail about this in several subsequent tweets. Having talked about what it was like to work in Bioware Austin (studios that created SWTOR), as well as about the business of MMO as a whole, Schmidt adds: "For me this is a new exciting chapter, and I am optimistic at what it means for the team and game".
